Also worth asking about
Most states, Illinois included, run some version of these. Details vary, so ask the agency:
- State veterans homes (long-term care) and state veterans cemeteries
- Veterans preference in state government hiring
- Discounted or free hunting and fishing licenses for disabled veterans
- Veteran designation on the driver's license and veteran license plates
- Some form of property tax relief for qualifying disabled veterans
- Burial honors and headstone or marker assistance
- State tax treatment of military retirement pay, which varies and changes often.
Benefits are won on paperwork
Nearly every program above asks for the same documents: DD-214, VA rating letter, proof of residence. MusterVault keeps all of it organized and encrypted on your own computer, ready the day you apply. Free, no account.

It is not legal, tax, or claims advice, amounts and rules are deliberately left to the agency, and MusterVault is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or any state agency.
